Program Description
Family Place Parent/Child Workshops are typically very
informal and stress children learning through play. Workshops consist of five weekly sessions,
which parents must attend with their child, who must be between 1 and 3 years
of age. Each session will feature a
visiting professional knowledgeable in areas such as speech, nutrition, or
child development. Instead of lecturing
to parents the visitng professiona circulates through the room speaking with
parents one on one and addressing their individual concerns and questions. The children’s librarian will also circulate
through the room talking to parents about the importance of reading with their
child and early literacy skill and helping parents to locate library
materials. Parents and child are also encourages
to socialize with one another. Each
workshop will also include themed displays that relate to the guest speakers
topic and the workshop will include an age appropriate craft.
